WASTAGE
The Barnfield journey started in 2018 over in the Middle East. I'd been living in Bahrain for the past 14 years having set up a digital marketing agency. In January 2020 I headed back to the UK to dip my toe in the custom motorcycle scene and to explore the possibility of founding a new company. A brand that designed and produced beautiful, ethically manufactured jackets and acted as an opportunity platform to create inspiring and inspired content.
Fast forward to today and I'm back in Bahrain on a quick two week trip. Initially planned to coincide with the Formula 1, I've come back to visit the tailoring studio that I started my journey with. While I've been perfecting the fit of the Lawrence jacket, I've been looking at ways to reduce wastage as much as possible.
When a piece of clothing is designed, a 'pattern' or template is created for each and every part of it. Those parts are put into software which then lays them out to use the fabric as efficiently as possible. Any wastage is obviously an environmental issue but it can also have an impact on the pricing. The last thing I want to do is to pass on unnecessary costs because our processes haven't been efficient.
So, I've been researching what I can do with any leftovers. I've been looking at flat caps and pannier bags so far but I'd love to hear some suggestions from you.

The best thing about developing a brand with a purpose is that it draws other people to it. The best thing about developing a brand whose purpose is to act as an opportunity platform to create inspiring and inspired content is that I've connected with incredible talent.
