Lawrence Jacket: Production Update No.11

On the 29th of April 2023, after 4 years, 3 months and 6 days of development, our first jacket went on sale.

It took just 34 hours, 24 minutes and 16 seconds to sell out.

Given that each jacket is hand crafted in limited numbers, the process of getting from order through to delivery isn’t always plain sailing. That said, it’s incredibly important to me that our customers are kept fully informed and up to date throughout production.

Rather than keep everything behind closed doors, what follows is the final full production update email that was sent out to our first customers.

At some point, I'll write up the story of the past week to try and give an insight into the incredible effort that's gone into these last seven days but right now, the most important thing is...your Lawrence is on it's way!

So, with that said, I thought I'd run through some pointers:

One: Tracking & Delivery.

Your jacket will have been collected by courier and you may have already received your tracking code. If you haven't had a notification by tomorrow, let me know and I can look into it for you.

Just a heads up that the tracking will say that you're receiving a package from Supereight. This is the team who are providing the fulfilment for me.

As a side note - if you're ever on the lookout for anything skateboard related, Supereight is the place to check out. They often have a great selection of Deus Ex Machina clothing so head over to www.supereight.net to stock up!

Two:
Unboxing

I've done everything I can to make sure your jacket arrives in the best possible condition.

You'll see I didn't scrimp on the "Fragile: This way up!" stickers and as much as I would have preferred your first sight of the jacket not to have been a big grey plastic bag - I figured it was better to make sure it was protected from the elements.

Three: Collar and buttons

I've added a card protector strip to the inside of your jacket collar to keep it from getting squashed in transit.

To remove it, your best bet is to slide it out rather than opening up the snap buttons.

They’re super heavy duty and can be a little tough to open up. The fabric behind them has been reinforced but, given enough 'umph' and the metal snap button could win in a fight against the fabric!

Also a heads up that I’ve included spare buttons which are in an envelope in one of the chest pockets.

Four:
Creases

Part of the reason I chose Express delivery was to make sure your jacket was folded for as little time as possible.

The dust jacket should help but it's likely that it will have picked up some creasing.

These will fall out in time but you can also lightly steam the fabric. Just go with a light touch and avoid ironing it as anything too high temperature could affect both the look and the structure of the jacket.

That said, just a reminder that the Lawrence is dry clean only and I recommend GreenEarth as and when you need a spruce up.

Five: Sizing

Your receipt will show the size of jacket that you ordered.

If we chatted and changed you over to a different size than was initially ordered, that's the size you'll receive - feel free to ignore what it says on the receipt.

Also, if you find that the Lawrence feels snug, that's correct. With time and with use, it will loosen slightly as the natural fibres relax.

If it feels more than snug or too large, please let me know asap. Although every  jacket made is accounted for, it may be that I can organise a swap if someone else is in a similar boat.

Six: Stay in touch

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Lawrence and as I've mentioned before, I'd love to organise a meet up at some point so please stay in touch.

As soon as I finish writing this email, I need to pack my bag to leave for my flight first thing tomorrow morning.

I'll be 'out of office' for a week but like I said in my last email, I'll be keeping an eye on things so if you need to get in touch, please do.

Seven:
Thank you

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again - thank you.

Your support has genuinely meant the world to me and I will never take it for granted.

Take care and speak soon!

Thanks,
